I need to find out more about Ricardo Cortes! Really I do. Jury Independence Illustrated is a new book written and illustrated by Ricardo Cortes. I think this book is revolutionary and can really change the way people view jury duty. Mr. Cortes writes:

"U.S. citizens are guaranteed the right to trial by jury when certain legal interests or liberties are at stake, and the law provides that all eligible citizens serve as jurors. It’s a meaningful role, although after receiving jury notice most of us hope to escape its obligation.

Jury Independence Illustrated is designed to excite and inform potential jurors to a specific, largely-unknown power they have – a transformative role that could radically shift the criminal justice system."

Interpreted, it means that while you also can protect society from criminals, you can also protect society from unjust, unfair laws as well. According to his new book, "A jury can nullify a law that it believes unjust or wrongly applied to a defendant." This makes me think back to a time where a person could receive more time for carrying one small amount of rock cocaine, then a person who committed a violent and often deadly crime. Another thing that makes this book so revolutionary and so amazing, is Mr. Cortes is offering it to the public for free. It appears his only goal is to educate. AWESOME, is it not?

Blogging from Enchilada's downtown

Wow! I cannot believe it's been 5 months since I last updated my blog. After a year's long hiatus, I'm working again AND I'm back downtown! I love working in downtown Dallas, because it's convenient to everything and it's always bustling with an energy that is contagious.

I must admit however, that I got into a comfortable routine of being a stay-at-home mom so waking before dawn and getting myself prepared for corporate work, then getting the kids prepared for school and then working a full 8-10 hour day, rushing home to get the kids off to practice for their respective extra-curricular sports as been quite challenging! This is my first week and I'm proud to say that I have transitioned back into the working world quickly.

I feel guilty for not having dinner prepared when the kids get home and I plan to take this weekend to prepare some casseroles and such to refrigerate for next week. And also coming into the office earlier. I survived this week and for now, that is a great accomplishment. :)

Back to downtown, I used to work here about 8 years ago and I visited some of my old haunts. I see so many familiar faces like Reggie who has the booth in Renaissance Tower, the manager and cashier from the cafeteria are still there and the manager from Enchilada's is till the same! Which is where I am blogging from now. If you're ever downtown, stop by Enchilada's and try the chicken and sour cream enchilada's or the homemade tortilla soup. THEY ARE BOTH DEEE-LISH!

Before I head back into the office, I just wanted to update you on some styles I've been checking for this week. Rhianna's style has been quite cute late. I can foresee a trend of colored ankle socks and heels filtrating the young genre's wardrobes. LOL Also, Christina Millian and been dressing very tastefully while also trendy. LOVES them both. I'll try to hit update with pictures later.

Lil Kim, Eddie Murphy and Janet

So I was reading online today (well actually late last night) that Lil Kim is making a comeback. According to PerezHilton, she has signed on with Roc Nation and Jay Z is expected to produce her next album.

((((((PAUSE for the CAUSE))))))

Now, I am in no means trying to knock the ancient Asian Barbie! But this is a bit much for me to swallow! Lil Kim hasn't had a hit since that Brooklyn song "Lighters Up" and that was somewhat of a one hit wonder from that album. The last time she was hot was in the late 90's -early 2000s. But this I do know: I know Jay can work wonders (take Rhianna for instance), and Kim used to have quite a stage presence so I'm curious to see where this will go... If Trina can make a comeback then why not little Kim?

In other news, Perez is also reporting that Eddie Murphy says he wants to return to Stand Up routines.

"Within the last six months or so, I started getting an itch to do it again. I started writing stuff… I was like, 'I could go and do 15, 20 minutes right now. Maybe in a couple of months I'll start working out again'. But it'll take a year before I'm ready to go on the road… It's gonna take at least a year to get the rust off; 20 years of rust."

I am EXTREMELY excited to hear this and I hope it turns out to be true. I would die a million deaths if I were able to attend a stand up show with the old Eddie.. Throw in his brother Charlie Murphy as the opening act with act or two starring both brothers ,in between, either on screen or live on the stage...!!!!!!! I'm in HOG HEAVEN!

Cube is a die hard Lakers Fan

Cube's son is the spitting image of him. I love his Afro, it reminds me of my nephew's fro. (Hey Jace!). His wife is looking fly in her black skinny jeans, what appears to be black knee high converse and black leather Lakers jacket. And it looks like has lost some weight. Speaking of Cube, I'm eagerly awaying his new TV series "Are we there yet?" I love family shows with a black cast. My family still watches reruns of the Everybody Hates Chris on BET.

(side bar: It's 90 degrees in the shade in Texas in May so I'm confused when I see people in other parts of the country wearing jackets and leather ones at that.)

Who is this DIGGY SIMMONS cat?

If you are like me, you enjoyed the family vibe of "Run's House". Rev. Run and Justine were as wholesome as the Cosby's infused with the urban flavor of raising 5 children in a Hip Hop influenced atmosphere. Throw in the fact that your dad is 1/3 part of a groundbreaking rap group, add in wealth and privileges unknown to most, with a strong spiritual background and an Uncle who is the co-founder of Def Jam and all that IT brings. This is not your typical family structure.

However, Rev. Run and Justine appeared to be great parents raising great children. Diggy always had a personality on the show and even started his own fashion blog a few years back. Now he is a rap artist in his own right and I can appreciate his "flow". His lyrics are far from the average dope boy, how many women can I get and how obnoxious can I sound on wax. If you throw in the fact that he's an extremely handsome young man whose interest include unique and distinctive architecture, as well as suggesting the latest 2010 Lanvin sneakers and you have one of the most interesting up and coming young artists of this decade.

He's on my radar people. I suggest you pay attention.

Well, actually it's only 5 business days. Saturday doesn't really count but I'm going to take it however I can get it.

I don't know how to describe the personality I have... when I think about it, I want to say I have a type A personality. For one, because, A is for Anita. and two, it just sounds good. LOL

Okay so I waited until the last minute AGAIN and I have no good excuse why. Other than I get off on working against unbearable deadlines and also, I like to torture myself. Luckily, ya girl has connections, an uncanny vision for the unique and impeccable taste, so it will all be good.

I just need to get the invitations out tomorrow. Get the details finalized by Tuesday. Pick up decorations by Wednesday.. Find me an outfight by Thursday AT THE LATEST AND work out for at least an hour an a half each day until Sat. :(

OVERLOOKING ALL THAT!!, I love the fact that there is a female RnB group that can sing. The sister's from Total could ALL sing their butts off and they looked like normal round the way girls. These girls are also reminicent of Brown Stone - MJ's group. I wouldn't go as far to compare them to TLC, I only heard one song LOL but I will say that and I miss the days of real singing and in all honesty, it sounds as if these girls can really SANG.

We all know Dawn's voice is awesome from MTB1.2.3 and 4?? but it appears that the other chic can sing too. I will google her name and update later but I was feeling this joint and just wanted to share.

I was late waking this morning despite going to bed earlier than I have since the break-up. The "break-up" being my job ofcourse. That bastard dumped me like an ex-boyfriend who never really just "got you", ....you know the kind... I finally drag myself out of the bed by 6:40 and wake up my son. The middle child is always so easy and amicable. She got up on her own when she realized her big sister was already up. I woke my oldest child (- a complicated soon to be 14yr old teenaged daughter) at 5:30 this morning so that she could type a paper. The request to wake her up at 5am came to me around 10:15 last night. This was the same time I learned a paper was due today. GEESH!

I brushed my teeth and looked in the mirror preparing to brush my hair when I noticed ANOTHER gray hair at my temple. What is this! About 5 in the last week!! Ugghhhh. I grab my tweezers and lean in prepared to yank that sucka out when I see it's not a gray hair but DOG HAIR instead. DAMMIT! Scrappy has been in my bed again!! --breathe in.. happy thoughts I tell myself, happy thoughts!---Okay good thing - no gray hair, bad thing- DAMMIT! Scrappy has been in my bed again!

After getting breakfast, it's a long wait for the "teenager" to grace us with her presence so that we can leave on time to get to the elementary school. This is when I learn that not only did she NOT finish her paper, "I only have one more paragraph", but also she has another paper due. I have to physically calm myself from fussing, I feel a headache and sore throat coming on.... Fine I tell myself, I will deal with her when she gets home from school.

I get back home, make a few phone calls, get online and check emails for a bit and then head upstairs to my room to read a book I picked up yesterday from the Library. I got an Walter Mosley book on audio. Of the 7 CDs I completed 3 already. and picked up a book "When Kambia Elaine flew in from Neptune. The cover was intriguing so I decided to exercise my eyes a bit and read a few chapters before my afternoon nap.

Buzzzttt - my iPhone went off about 7 times back to back.. I slide the screen to find about 6 emails flying in from back and forth through my crazy group of email buddies. Mixed in the pack though, was an email from the "teenager's" english teacher. She informs me that my child came to class unprepared without a notebook, binder or an assignment. She asks me to help her be more prepared and then right above her name, she signs - just care!

PAUSE while we interrupt this prgram for a message from the emergency broadcast system. Have you ever wondered why people say some of the things they think? I mean seriously! Just because you think something in your mind, that does not necessarily mean you should say it aloud. They call it an inside voice for a reason people.. Keep that stuff on the inside!!!!!! This

Now is this message meant for me? Or is this in her email signature? I tell myself not to immediately address this, yet address the concerns of the missing work. After a minute of soul searching, I look back on the last two weeks, I realize the pressure of school volleyball, city drill, the first six weeks of 8th grade, making As and Bs and keeping the room clean have completely overwhelmed her. WOWsers, I guess I forgot how "teenagers" feel pressure of hectic life too. I see I need to go in my closet and dust off my Super Woman cape.

I decided to get online and ask for a meeting with all the teachers to get schedules of upcoming assignments and set a rapport with the teacher's so they know they can email or call me for anything even if it's dealing with her dropping a pencil. I've got to get this child organized and back on track so she can get into the habit again. I don't know what it is with teenagers, where you have to keep reminding them of the same thing. It seems that every time the seasons change, not only do I have to facilitate cleaning out the closets, but I also have to give a refresher crash course on what is and what is not expected in my house. Someone told me it gets worse......

I haven't been updating much since I lost my job. Life has changed somewhat. Can you believe that I actually have been cooking dinner (which is ready when the kids get home from school) and those little brats (DISCLAIMER: I truly love them dearly [smile]) haven't had to do many chores, outside of a weekly request to clean their rooms. This domestic thing is not as bad as I originally thought it would be.

Yesterday I woke up with a renewed energy. It may have had something to do with those two vanilla creme coffee cups loaded with real sugar and 2% milk. And maybe also a little with it being cold and rainy and my decision to add little boost of Bailey's in the last cup.

With that renewed energy, I decided I would work out. Then, in what I like to call my Anita Logic, I decided that I needed to purchase me some new workout clothes. IDK, but it's something about shopping that makes me feel so good. I went to my favorite mall in Dallas, Northpark Center. For one, I can always find a good parking spot either by Dillards underground or by Neiman Marcus on the NW HWY side. They also have the best boutiques around raging from the high end like Stuart Weisman to the more affordable spots like Forever 21; all centrally located in one place right off 75 Expresway.

I'm somewhere in the middle of the spectrum with my shopping preference and my favorite hautes are BeBe - trendy tailored to the up and coming movers and shakers; ALDO - the ultimate spot for hot shoes from 3-6 inches. :-). Now there are several more stores that I love like the Apple Store and Steve Madden but yesterday I only hit up Bebe and Victoria's Secret, looking for the active wear.

I was a little disappointed with BeBe, the jeans were mediocre. The had a pair of black metallic skinny jeans that I might pick up for the holiday season but nothing really caught my eye this trip. Nothing really stood out. I think I might have to change up a little and see what Neiman Marcus Last Call's @ the Allen Outlet has in the jeans department. After leaving BeBe's, I did a drive by through Express, they have some cute tanks but nothing I can't pick up at Sam Moon's. So my next stop was Victoria's Secret where I was pleasantly surprised. I got some cute yoga pants with PINK bedazzled across the butt (did I ever tell you that I LOVE THE BLING?!); a couple of V-neck t-shirts - 2 for $22; and a cute Dallas Cowboys t-shirt. Ever since they won in an impressive win this past Sunday, I'm back on the band wagon!

All in all, the trip was a success, my powershopping trip only lasted about 2 hours - minus 55 minutes of traffic due to the weather and was back in time to have the salmon in the oven before Larry's bus pulled up to the house.

Unfortunately it was raining and I didn't get to run at the kids practice. I didn't get any running in, but I did clean my bathroom and polish all the furniture in my office and the table in the breakfast nook and also did a couple of stretches..... well okay maybe only about 7 stretches... but still something is better than nothing. today the sun is shining so I get to reset the timer today. Hopefully I will get in an hour before my guests arrive tonight. (just a couple of girlfriends stopping by to watch the BET Awards and see what hilarity will ensue. Comedian Mike Epps is hosting and they are honoring Ice Cube so for that.. I am excited.

That term has been drifting in and out of my mind all through out the day. While I am not sleepless in Seattle, I am Jobless in Dallas. I lost my job last Thursday, mainly due to a boss who has no clue what I do, how much I do and exactly what my job entails. After I was let go, I realized how much I truly hated my job. It totally depleted my motivational bank and stifled all of creativity. The lack of organization and direction might have had a little to do with it. It could be that it just wasn't my passion. It definitely wasn't the group I worked with. I will truly miss my whole gang. WELL! I will miss the gang in the "Dungeon" as well as my personal friends all throughout both the Science and Pineland building.

There are some who I won't miss :) AT ALL.

So I guess this embarks a whole new era of my life. Destination unknown, possibilities unlimited. I am ready for the next adventure. I wonder if Dallas is ready for me.

My weekend began with Friday. I have had an exhausting week at work. Okay, so I admit, I haven't always been the most deadline oriented person. That is far behind me now. This is not a time to start bringing up the past.

Okay, so back to my week. It was crazy. How can I describe it..

It's like living ground hogs day every second week of the month.

Working with finances will put a strain on even the strongest relationships. This is no different. Queen Samantha and Lt. Corporal Pissy Bee. these two heffahs work my nerves to the inner most of my core. What is so hard to understand about what I am telling you??? Listen to me when I tell you what the bottom line will be. then remember what I told you for future references when you will encounter the same brick wall.

Don't continue to act like that little rat in the maze that keeps going on in that puzzling maze, being fueled by normalcy and tradition. MY SHIT IS DIFFERENT!. Wow, I hate to sound so harsh but jeezh!!!!!!!! How many times do you need to ring the freaking alarm and alert the troops that the enemy is approaching? When really, you just misinterpreted the messenger. Causing you to panic and send EVERYONE into a nervous fit!!!!!!!

Man.... like I was saying, those two heffahs can work my nerves. Each month they find a reason to put the spot light on me, catch me off guard.

it's all gravy though. (yes, I have to use my street knowledge to give myself a tough talk).

I can hold on to the knowledge that I am good at what I do. I am in a situation where I cannot fail. Failing is not an option so my survival mode needs to kick in. I have to take off the cooking apron and put away my fabulous fabric that I am using to re-upholster my five bar stools and FOCUS.

The good thing is that I don't have the kids for the next two weeks. So thank GOD I have an opportunity to self indulge, get my pouting out and focus. Anywho.. Friday was cool, I put out some minor fires and my boss replied with an 'great' and 'thank you' in the same email. I have knocked some things off my project list. Marked some issues that I need to address for Monday. Made a mental note to get into the office at 7:00 on Monday. Walk some signed files to Finance. FIVE O'clock.

I'm home now, sitting on the bed, talking to Drew. she's in California for a week and she does not believe me when I tell her that I am going to a gathering at a jazz club in the Desoto.

I am feeling fearless tonight. I wash my hair and decide to be loose tonight and just add some mouse and conditioner and throw on some ripped skinny jeans, (TIGHT of course.) and Calvin's oversized V neck white t-shirt with the pipe blue stitching. After a brief minute with makeup, I leave with some smoked grey eyes to match the jeans and a bad pair of gladiator sandals.

I make it to the party and run into old gross Devon. oh my God! Here he comes with his atrociously large lump of a belly AND braces. Its enough that those buck eyes are ogling me like I was the last supper, but he wants to hug and hold my hand and walk me to the door of the party.

Hey baby! Don't forget, we are leaving here together tonight okay?. Hell Naw I want to scream! Uh-huh, I tell him as I am scanning the room to see if I see any friendly faces. I run into a few, play bowling with the wii game with my childhood friend Kelan who I found out was hosting the party on Facebook, and his date and a few others and after a little over an hour, I head home.

Saturday - Day of the bachelorette party.

I wake up simi early and do a little cleaning and washing.

Calvin is still asleep. He called on his way in from work and picked me up and took me to Denny's for a early AM breakfast and he is in a deep sleep as I am leaving the house. I normally would sleep in late today too but it's the night of the bachelorette party and I am too excited thinking about a girls night. After a little shopping, I find some white washed, ripped and torn loose boyfriend jeans and an Armani vest to wear over a bebe white tee. I do my punk rock chic look again tonight and take the time to do a pretty awesome job of with my make up. It was flawless if I may pay myself a compliment. I make sure to throw in a little yoga early in the day and I am ready tonight.

I just watched the hangover and I compare last night to a girls version. I had so much fun, nothing turned out the way it was supposed to. Victory Park and Dick's Last Resort and 80s night at the House of Blues had an energy that started the night. We only stayed there about an hour and after a little change of plans and a couple of chicken and catfish baskets later.. my group of friends from work; Mikesha - the soon to be bride, co workers JoAnna and Latrena, 3 bridesmaids, and a few extra people we end up at Blues Palace in South Dallas. My old stomping ground - yep, I graduated from Lincoln High School and my roots run thick like veins through this town. I know many, and related to alot and have encounted most of everything that has come and will come through this slick, improvished , culturally eclectic group of individuals.

Now, I had a margarita at the House of Blues and a glass of champagne at the Blues Palace so I am bubbly and relaxed. I am looking like a million bucks. My hair is just the way I wanted it, naturally curled with the side slicked back to give me an asymetrical look from the front, my tan is showing - the tan I got from sitting all those hot ass days in the sun and sweltering heat from my kids' track meets.

I ran into my cousins, MaDonna was celebrating her birthday with my other cousins Kim, Sabrina and Leslie. (Sabrina was always my favorite cousin. She just always seemed genuinely happy to see me. like she really enjoyed my character and company.) RL was clowing on the stage after a nice set with his band. He had the oldest and drunkest women to come on stage to dance and he screamed how he needed a HEN. after the largest woman in the world got on stage and shamed her children's children, he called for ROSTERS too. LOL I even ran into a friend who we shared a brief moment in time before he returned to the armed services. This was ofcourse about 17 years ago but he looks exactly the same!.. and from what he tried to drunk-ly tell me last night, I did too. <------------------ HEY, i will take a compliment however they come! LOL

I didn't get pictures of that though.

But I did get pictures of a Michael Jacskson impersonator who looked like he spent TOO MUCH TIME at home practicing those moves and pictures of my cousins, the bride and my friends.

I have talked to the kids dad. We have planned for me to pick up the kids, take them to practice and he will pick them up from practice. Monday is the first day of football and drill practice and my kids need to be there early and geared up. So I needed to make sure I picked them up considering their dad has no concept of time.

I have been preparing myself for another long exhausting week. Budget deadlines this week. I'm headed to bed.. enjoy my pictures and have a great week.

When I got the call that Musical Legend Michael Jackson passed, my first thought was NO WAY... This must be wrong.

Then it was confirmed.

My second thought was OH NO! Farrah passed this Morning, now MJ.. my old African roots made me think that someone else was going to pass.. Until I remembered that Ed McMahon passed yesterday.

You know what that old wives tale says... Bad things come in 3's.

I am completely devastated by the news of Michael passing. As I am watching CNN Anderson Cooper, and BET and MTV tributes to the King of Pop, it reminds me how truly talented and professional this man was. His songs and his work was unparalleled and I hope that he is remembered for his work.

Man! What is the world coming to where the police can justify arresting a 10-year old girl for assault for fighting with her 13-year old sister. Granted, I don't know all the details, but arresting a 10-year old.......... I fought with my sister's a couple of times in our younger days. I am glad the Po-Po's didn't make a trip to my parents house. My mom would have been SO mad!!!! Maybe this was a "Scared Straight" type of thing... IDK.

It feels as though I have watched Angela Simmons (daughter of Rev. Run Simmons - Run DMC and star of Run's House and Daddy's Girls) grow into a beautiful young woman. She is independent and outspoken and stands firm on what she believes. She also doesn't take mess from those hot in the AZZ young men running wild in society. LOL (everything that we all want in our daughters) I can appreciate the fact that both her and her sister Vanessa have a strong sense of family values as well as strong business sense. Both sisters run the Pastry line. In this photo, her clothes are age appropriate because she is of age now and have just a hint of sexy while still remaining classy. Her dad should be proud. <------ although I don't think any dad wants to see a hint of his daughters ta-ta's but that's just how dad's are.

BTW, if you don't follow Rev Run on twitter, you should. He has some of the best tweets that are inspirational and designed to motivate the tweeter to better themselves. I said "YES Girl. So his ex-girlfriend, (wait for it... :0) .... who happens to be black (were you really surprised?), wrote a reply on the SAME website (pause.. and let it sink in... okay you can continue) titled You White, Stringy haired B*tch." Of course Anna was as intrigued by the wackness of the entire set up as me. "Yeeepppppp, so Katie writes a long winded posts that basically said sometimes people are going to say things that hurt but so what?" She also admitted to being a trouble maker in the past and sometimes says things that are crass. She ended her post by signing off "Katie Rost, A Stone Cold Nappy Head Ho."

Anna is shaking her head in amazement now... so she says, "You have got to put that on your blog." She knows I like to report on the weird and unexplainable.

After reading Katie post, I am siding with her. TEAM KATIE Because what does Julie meeting poor struggling black people have to do with the price of tea in China???? To say that immediately told me she was talking to someone black (insert Katie's name here). If she has a problem with something Katie did or said, Katie basically called her bluff and said SAY IT TO MY FACE. Whomp!

So Twitter world is blowing up with news that rapper Dolla, from Atlanta - also signed to Akon's Konvict label was shot in the head and killed in LA just a few hours ago. He is getting alot of RIP tweets. While reports on Twitter are confirming that he was killed by a woman, I am reading conflicting reports on the web that are referring to the murderer as "he".

Either way, this is just a shame. :-(

Per my usual morning ritual before rousing the kids for school, I tune my TV to Fox 4 Good Day. I HEART Tim! LOL. Well on my way out the door, I caught some commentary from guest radio show host, Mark Davis. He said what the Mavericks nees is a Big American Black Guy.

I didn't know if I should be offended by his statements because they sound so crass, but the truth is.. He is ABSOLUTELY, 100% correct and I concur with those thoughts. If we could get a strong power forward to play opposite Dirk and defend the post, we could be unstoppable. (I.e Shaq or Tim Duncan)

I wonder if Mark will be get some serious flack for his statements? Sometimes we tend to be a little too sensitive. Stop wearing your emotions on your sleeves and man up people! Say what you mean and mean what you say. And I say Mark Davis, if no one else supports your statements, the complicated soccer mom does! Okay, so I didn't watch the game last night because I definitely thought it was over for the Mavs so I missed all the chaos. I am still trying to sort out what happened but apparently Mark Cuban said some disparaging words to Kenyon Martin's mother. (this is so sad considering KMart is actually from Dallas and played at SOC). And last night the Dallas Maverick fans were booing and throwing things at Carmelo Anthony's finance - La La Vasquez and Kenyon's finance Trina as well as his mother. To see of La La clearly frustrated and upset being escorted out by Security.

Dallas, we have GOT to do better. This is DISGRACEFUL! Mavs owner Mark Cuban has since apologized and has offered Kenyon's family and Trina (I think) his personal suite and security if and when the series comes back to Dallas.

So when I first heard the news blurb that someone was arrested at Dirk's house, I thought to myself.. Hmmmm, what's this all about? That thought quickly left my mind and was replaced with thoughts of of stringing up my kids for forgetting to do their chores.

Well low and behold, I was on the Dallas Morning News website this AM and saw this article that a woman was arrested on multiple warrants and a possible parole violation and she was Dirk's girlfriend. Apparently he hired a private dectective because he felt something wasn't right. (Obviously) and she the warrants have something to do with not paying for dental work and check by theft. But the bigger story is that a Gold Digger's web has been successfully unraveled.

Geesh! It seems these NBA fellas are a little slow to the game of Trapping... LOL (Plus she is a little harsh in the face but maybe she was crying her eyes out -or something?!?)

He plays in the movie "Obsessed" with Mrs. Beyonce Knowles-Carter that hits theatres today. So Gary with the Tea (97.9 the beat) said that it was a good movie. I am just going to reserve judgement until I see it. While having Mr. Elba in the movie definitely puts it in Upgrade status, I am less than thrilled with Beyonce's acting skills. Love her as a singer, but an actress... not so much.......

Hey, she could prove me wrong. I do recall that I didn't like Halle Berry as an actress early in her career. I just thought that she, like Beyonce didn't portray a wide enough range of emotions. Another thought could be that both are just so beautiful that people find it hard to take them seriously.. IDK. What I do know right now is that I am a little anxious to see the movie.

I didn't get to catch Star Jones when she was on Oprah a few episodes back. I think she was talking about her struggles with her weight. I ran across some recent photos of her (with her new man, Herb). She is 47 and looks fabulous to me! I absolutely love the buttons and detail on her chocolate leather coat, love the matching boots and the white dress with matching chocolate. A+ (Hate that beanie hat thing though)

Updated to say: I guess those extra smedium jackets are trying to become a trend. I don't think I can jump on that band wagon. Wearing clothes that look like they belong to your younger brother (or oldest son in TI's case) is NEVER a good thing.

I was checking out Huffington Post's site and ran across an article about First Lady Michelle Obama and her choice of designers while in Europe this past week. I see the First Lady is a style icon and the entire world is watching with the heavy-weights in fashion whining about "Why not me?"

LOL - Oscar de la Renta is fuming because while he understand the First Lady wearing recession conscience labels (we are in a recession and he really isn't understanding) - he still thinks it's wrong to go in one direction (Nita laughs out loud at that thinly veiled humor). While Donna Karan just hopes to dress and meet Michelle Obama one day.

What are your thoughts? Is Michelle Obama wrong for wearing J. Crew and making it look like a million bucks? Is she wrong for supporting one her personal favorite designers - Jason Wu.

Is getting licks really considered a bad thing?

Most of you who know me either went to Lincoln High School with me, or you know that I went there. (I'm a proud Tiger) Anyway, I remember when my friend (Glenisha) and I had to go to Papa Bear to get licks for skipping class. It was only 3 (or maybe 5) licks but I felt so bad because that was my first time getting licks from the principal. He hugged us afterwards and told us not to skip Mr. McKenzie's Calculus class again. I was just happy he didn't call my mom. That was the norm back then. If you get in trouble, you get licks. 21 licks seems a bit extreme but I don't know the full story. I do know that there are times that I wish I had a canoe paddle to get with some of these disrespectful teens today. (I am in no way saying the young man was disrespectful) but the thought of getting licks made me never want to skip class again. I know some parents are touchy about this, but our sensitive society (IMHO) is creating a bunch of spoiled kids who lack respect for those in authority. I have several friends who are teachers who say we don't really know how our kids are acting in school. Maybe if they feared corporal punishment, they would act a little differently. :-(

Fox are rocking something you might wear in the daytime for casual Fridays. Auntie Viv is killing it with the jacket, studded boots and hot hand bag.

While Veronica Webb (Socialite) and Tracy Ellis Ross (Girlfriends) are rocking beautiful evening attire. Tracy's is a little more 'After 5'.

Woman (Edwina Donnell age 29 - pictured above) stands accused of abandoning 6-month old baby in east Oak Cliff traffic. Witnesses reported seeing something in the road and as they got closer, they noticed it was a baby and had to swerve to avoid hitting the girl. They picked up the child and called 911. Police spoke with the witnesses at a near by Jack-n-the-Box and they said they saw a woman put the child in the road, then curse and yell at the girl while walking away. Donnell is a cousin of the 6-month old's mother.

My only question is why would someone leave the child in the care of someone suffering from mental illness? I am happy that the baby came through this unharmed. Ms. Donnell has three children of her own who are currently in foster care because of neglectful supervision due to her mental illness, CPS says. to read the full story, click here

Our youth are in so much trouble..

I wanted to share these stories with you:

The First story involves a 17-year old teen (Desiree Sanders - pictured above) who was pulled over by the police and arrested after it was determined that she was smoking marijuana with her 6 month old in the car. Oh! and BTW, she is pregnant (yep and smoking MARIJUANA) AND she has twins that she lost custody of. This will be the 4th child for the unfit 17 year old teen. Full story here.

The second story is of two girls who decided they were going to fight over a boy at 2am this morning. One of the girls struck the other girl with a lead pipe approximately 3 times in the head before she was tackled (by the girl who was hit with the pipe). Full story here.

Finally, for the third story, we have the ex-principal (Donald Moten) of SOC holding cage fights for the students. Apparently he sent troubled students to a steel utility cage for these fights. OH! And the DISD hired Moten despite his checkered history at the Dallas Police Department – one that included staging his own kidnapping and the fatal shooting of an elderly crime-watch volunteer. Moten resigned last year after an investigation found that he coerced teachers into changing athletes grades. Needless to say, SOC was stripped of its 2006 state basketball championship. He also held unauthorized pep rally fundraisers that were used to fund personal gambling trips. Full story here.
